What is an IVR and what can it do?

IVR explained

IVR stands for Interactive Voice Response and is commonly referred to as your phone tree. With your UPbook system, you have a Level 1 IVR (Press 1 for New Client, 2 for Existing & 3 for other) and an optional Level 2 IVR, which is fully customizable to your needs. Callers that press 2 or 3 will be presented with your Level 2 IVR.
There are a handful of options for each keypress on your Level 2 menu including:
  • Ring specific phones
  • Choose a unique ringtone
  • Display text on desktop phones
  • Play recorded message with instructions
  • Forward to a different phone number (ie; mobile phone)
  • Send to specific voicemail with unique greeting

If your UPbook phone system has a smart auto-attendant system in place, only unrecognized callers will be presented with the level 1 menu (1 for New Client, 2 for Existing) and then we track the number to present them with just your greeting and optional level 2 the next time they call. Here is an example to show you a possible level 2 menu. Email us at support@upbook.com to migrate to the Smart Auto-Attendant if you are not using this feature currently.

Once you define your level 2 menu, we'll work together on the scripts for the recordings and then either someone on your team can record each one or you can make a recording request on our site for a one time $10 fee.
